Seeking Public Comment on Diabetic Foot Assessment and Follow-Up Measure
On behalf of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Mathematica and the National Committee for Quality Assurance are developing and testing a new clinical quality measure: Diabetic Foot Assessment and Follow-Up. This measure assesses the percentage of patients ages 18 years and older with diabetes who had a lower-extremity neurological examination, vascular examination, and visual foot inspection; who received foot care education at least once in the past 12 months; and who had a documented follow-up plan of care if the findings were abnormal.
We seek feedback on the measure concept and draft specifications, including the measure’s importance, face validity, feasibility, and usefulness for quality improvement. Commenters may also identify possible improvements to the measure or highlight potential resistance to, or unintended consequences of, the measure if it is implemented. The public-comment period opens March 6, 2023 and closes April 5, 2023; see the web posting for full details and related files available for download.
Please submit comments on the proposed measure specification to Mathematica at ECeCQM@mathematica-mpr.com.
