2026 - EC About Tab
Each year, CMS updates the electronic clinical quality measures (eCQMs) for potential use in CMS quality reporting programs and publishes them on the eCQI Resource Center. CMS updates the specifications annually to align with current clinical guidelines and code systems so they remain relevant and actionable within the clinical care setting. CMS requires the use of the most current version of the eCQMs as specified and intended for the applicable performance periods for all quality reporting programs.
CMS defines the performance period for eligible clinicians as the measure data capture period of the calendar year between January 1 and December 31. Eligible clinicians are to use the updated eCQMs to electronically report 2026 clinical quality measure data for CMS quality reporting programs.
Some of the eCQMs listed on the Eligible Clinician eCQMs table are available for reporting in Traditional Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and/or MIPS Value Pathways (MVPs). The eCQI Resource Center will not differentiate these eCQMs for specific CMS quality reporting programs until CMS proposes and finalizes them through notice-and-comment rulemaking for each applicable program. For clinician reporting guidance including the MIPS, MVP, Accountable Care Organization Primary Care Flex, Medicare Shared Saving Program and the Primary Care First models, visit the Quality Payment Program website and the Quality Payment Program Resource Library.
Submit questions on the technical aspects of eCQMs to the ASTP/ONC Project Tracking System (Jira) eCQM Issue Tracker.
