eCQM Annual Update Pre-Publication Document: Updated Version Now Available

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has published an updated version of the Electronic Clinical Quality Measures (eCQM) Annual Update Pre-Publication Document, which describes changes in the standards and code system versions used in the updated eCQMs for potential use in CMS quality reporting programs for 2021 reporting/performance. The updated eCQM Pre-Publication Document includes a revision to reflect the appropriate HL7 version of the CQL-based HQMF Implementation Guide and an updated publication date for the QRDA I in the list of standards related to the updated eCQM specifications for 2021 reporting/performance.

The Pre-Publication Document is designed to help health information technology (IT)/electronic health record (EHR) developers, Eligible Professionals/Eligible Clinicians, and Eligible Hospitals/Critical Access Hospitals prepare for the 2021 reporting/performance period through transparent pre-release of expected standards and code system versions.

The eCQM annual update for 2021 reporting/performance is expected to be available spring 2020. Please sign up for and follow the electronic Clinical Quality Improvement (eCQI) Resource Center, CMS, and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) listservs to receive updates and announcements on the eCQM specifications’ publication and related content.
