The Deadline to Register and Attest for the CY 2021 Medicare Promoting Interoperability Program for Eligible Hospitals and Critical Access Hospitals is March 31, 2022

The deadline to register and attest for the calendar year (CY) 2021 EHR reporting year for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Medicare Promoting Interoperability Program is March 31, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Program participants from eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals (CAHs) are required to attest through CMS’s Hospital Quality Reporting system (previously, the QualityNet Secure Portal).

2021 Program Requirements

Eligible hospitals and CAHs attesting to CMS must report on four objectives and their measures, as well as two self-selected calendar quarters of electronic clinical quality measure (eCQM) data on four self-selected eCQMs. Under the performance-based scoring methodology, a minimum total score of 50 points is required to satisfy the scoring requirement.

In addition, in order to be considered a meaningful user and avoid a downward payment adjustment, eligible hospitals and CAHs must have used either (1) existing 2015 Edition certification criteria, (2) the 2015 Edition Cures Update criteria, or (3) a combination of the two for a minimum of 90 consecutive days within CY 2021 in order to meet the certified electronic health record technology (CEHRT) definition, as finalized in the CY 2021 Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule.
