New Resources Available: Teach Me Clinical Quality Language (CQL) Video Series

As part of continuing education and outreach for electronic clinical quality measure (eCQM) standards, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has added topics to the Teach Me Clinical Quality Language (CQL) video series. The intent of the videos is to support healthcare quality leaders, health information technology vendors, and measure developers understand the use of CQL.
New Teach Me CQL videos cover these topics:

  1. Birth Date
    • This video describes the different approaches to age calculations used across versions of CMS program eCQMs
  2. Choice Types
    • In this video, viewers will learn how to define what a choice type is in CQL and which CQL data types correspond to HL7 V3 data types for measure reporting.
  3. Open and Closed Parentheses
    • Learners will be able to describe the meaning, representation, and appropriate use of open and closed parentheses in intervals.
  4. AND OR Precedence
    • This video discusses the importance of operator precedence when considering the structure of a CQL expression.

Please submit CQL-related questions to ecqm@icf.com. To find tools, resources, and additional CQL educational materials, visit the CQL page on the Electronic Clinical Quality Improvement (eCQI) Resource Center.
