New VSAC Functionality

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) Value Set Authority Center (VSAC), with support from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), is pleased to announce the launch of several new functionalities within VSAC.

VSAC Comparison Tool
The Comparison Tool allows you to compare many different elements of value sets and quality measures within VSAC. You can compare value sets that have been published by an eCQM or C-CDA program release, as well as any value set within VSAC.

Value Set Review and Maintenance
VSAC authors and stewards can now update the review status of value set definitions, from Active, to Not Maintained, to Deprecated, or Retired. VSAC users can view the status of value set expansions to decide whether a value set will meet their needs. An additional email from VSAC to all VSAC authors and stewards is forthcoming with more details.

Usage Summary
VSAC authors and stewards can determine their value set’s usage by the number of times users have downloaded a value set or have requested a value set through the API during a specified time period.

Audit Log
This provides a report for VSAC set authors and stewards to review dates for all updates to the value set’s definition, expansion, and metadata, along with the specific author or steward group members who made the changes.

Track Value Set Changes
This new documentation summarizes the multiple methods in VSAC for users, authors and stewards to view, compare, and track value set changes.

Purpose Statement Bulk Upload
This functionality enables CMS eCQM and HL7 C-CDA program release managers to perform global edits and bulk updates for all existing purpose statements in a program release.

Finally, we include a link to the Electronic Clinical Quality Improvement (eCQI) Resource Center (eCQI RC) in our VSAC Support Center. Although it includes redundant VSAC documentation, it also provides information for authoring and maintaining value sets specifically for quality measures, electronic clinical quality improvement, and other applications.

You can contribute to the improvement of VSAC by sending feedback and ideas to the NLM Support Center.
