Application programming interface (API)
An application programming interface (API) is a set of rules that lets software applications communicate with each other. Developers use APIs to build applications that request data or services from other systems. An API acts as a bridge between applications. When a user sends a message, checks the weather, or uses a social media app, the app uses an API to exchange information with another system. Frye, M-K. (n.d.). What is an API?
