The Joint Commission (TJC) introduced an advanced certification program for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacements (THKR) in 2016. This voluntary certification program for accredited organizations supports quality, consistency, and safety throughout the pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases of care. The program applies to surgeries performed in the inpatient, hospital-based outpatient, and ambulatory surgery settings.  A set of performance measures was developed to enhance the Advanced Certification of THKR program.

About eCQI

Electronic Clinical Quality Improvment (eCQI)

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) are working to improve the health of our nation by transforming care from a volume-based, provider-centered system to a patient-centered, learning health system. This work includes using quality measurement to improve care given to patients by measuring how patients are treated and, most importantly, how well those patients do afterward.

Measure alignment includes using the same quality measures and value sets across settings and within multiple programs when possible. Alignment is achieved when a set of measures works well across settings or programs to produce meaningful information without creating extra work for those responsible for the measurement.
