This presentation will discuss the basics of quality measures and their components, the five phases of the measure development lifecycle, and CMS’ Meaningful Measures Initiative. In addition, resources for further learning will be provided.

Electronic Clinical Quality Improvment (eCQI)

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) are working to improve the health of our nation by transforming care from a volume-based, provider-centered system to a patient-centered, learning health system. This work includes using quality measurement to improve care given to patients by measuring how patients are treated and, most importantly, how well those patients do afterward.

The call for public comment period opens on January 18, 2018 and closes on March 2, 2018.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has contracted with Yale New Haven Health Services Corporation – Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE) to develop four hospital-level electronic clinical quality measures (eCQMs) on dimensions of patient harm or adverse patient safety events that can be improved with high quality care.
