Now Available: eCQMs Updated for 2017
Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) posted the 2016 annual update for electronic clinical quality measures (eCQMs) for eligible hospitals and eligible professionals. Providers will use these updated measures to electronically report 2017 quality data for CMS quality reporting programs.
CMS updates the specifications annually to improve their alignment with current clinical guidelines and code systems so that they remain relevant and actionable within the clinical care setting.
CMS is updating select electronic clinical quality measures (eCQMs) that eligible professionals and eligible hospitals will electronically report in 2016. These versions of the measures were posted on CMS’ website on May 1, 2015 for the annual update of the 2014 measure set. Errors have been found in the XML renderings of 12 eligible professional eCQMs and 4 eligible hospital eCQMs. Corrections for these measures should affect only those who are electronically consuming the Healthcare Quality Measures Format (HQMF).
The Pre-Submission Validation API (PSVA) tool assists hospitals and their vendors to identify and correct errors within their Quality Reporting Document Architecture (QRDA) Category I files prior to data submission to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) electronic clinical quality measure (eCQM) data receiving system. Updates to the Hospital Quality Reporting (HQR) 2017 CMS QRDA-I schematron for PSVA are now available. This version contains updated QRDA standards for CY 2017 reporting.
How should single administrations be sent to satisfy CONF:1098-7508 for 2016 Reporting Period submissions?
Issue: Table 132 for Medication Activity (V2) in the HL7 QRDA Category I Release 1 DSTU Release 3 (June 2015) defines the effectiveTime element (i.e. CONF:1098-7508) as being of data type IVL_TS. As such, a substanceAdministration/effectiveTime/@value is not allowed and the CMS receiving system will reject any QRDA-I submission with such a construct in it for the Medication Activity (V2) template.
What is the Quality Reporting Document Architecture (QRDA)?
The Health Level Seven International (HL7) Quality Reporting Document Architecture (QRDA) is a standard document format for the exchange of electronic clinical quality measure (eCQM) data. QRDA reports:
