On April 14, 2017, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a proposed rule that would update 2018 Medicare payment and polices when patients are admitted into hospitals.

The rule proposes some changes to clinical quality measure reporting.

Now Available:  eCQMs Updated for 2017

Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) posted the 2016 annual update for electronic clinical quality measures (eCQMs) for eligible hospitals and eligible professionals. Providers will use these updated measures to electronically report 2017 quality data for CMS quality reporting programs.

CMS updates the specifications annually to improve their alignment with current clinical guidelines and code systems so that they remain relevant and actionable within the clinical care setting.…

CMS is updating select electronic clinical quality measures (eCQMs) that eligible professionals and eligible hospitals will electronically report in 2016. These versions of the measures were posted on CMS’ website on May 1, 2015 for the annual update of the 2014 measure set. Errors have been found in the XML renderings of 12 eligible professional eCQMs and 4 eligible hospital eCQMs. Corrections for these measures should affect only those who are electronically consuming the Healthcare Quality Measures Format (HQMF).

Invitation to Test the New CQL Standard for eCQMs

 

CMS is considering using the Clinical Quality Language (CQL) to represent electronic clinical quality measure (eCQM) logic. CMS invites electronic health record (EHR) vendors and other implementers to participate in testing the new CQL standard for eCQMs by providing feedback related to implementation and evaluation of measures using CQL-based standards. QualityNet Secure Portal No Longer Accepting Submissions for CY 2016 eCQM Reporting

The QualityNet Secure Portal is no longer accepting electronic Clinical Quality Measure (eCQM) reporting for Calendar Year (CY) 2016 reporting for the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR) or the Medicare Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Programs with the close of the submission period on March 13, 2017. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services invites vendors and stakeholders to review and provide feedback on draft electronic clinical quality measure (eCQM) measure packages that include logic and header changes for eCQMs under consideration for CMS quality reporting and payment programs.
